Looking for something magical to do in Tuscany this summer? On Friday, August 29, 2025, at 9:15 PM, the breathtaking San Galgano Abbey will host the musical “Far far west… Calamity Jane!”. It’s a free event, but you’ll need to book your seat in advance.

The magic of San Galgano at night

Few places in Italy are as unforgettable as San Galgano.

With its roofless Gothic walls and open sky, the abbey feels more like a natural stage than a ruin. Add music, lights, and an audience under the stars, and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable evening.

This special event is organized by the Accademia di Canto Moderno of Siena, together with the Comune of Chiusdino and the Fondazione San Galgano. Over 30 performers—singers, dancers, and actors—will bring the western-inspired story to life in a unique Tuscan setting.

A western twist in the heart of Tuscany

The plot begins in a dull little town somewhere in the Wild West, where nothing much ever happens. That is, until a shocking event shakes everyone awake: Dakota, a young woman with Native American roots, is kidnapped. To save the day, the legendary Calamity Jane arrives, sparking a whirlwind of hilarious scenes and quirky characters.

The performance is more than comedy. It’s a playful but meaningful reminder that differences should be embraced as opportunities rather than obstacles. And the soundtrack? Expect iconic pop hits from the ’60s and ’70s that add energy and nostalgia to the show.
