Amiata Music 2026 brings another ambitious season of concerts to southern Tuscany, turning the Forum Fondazione Bertarelli into one of the region’s most distinctive summer music destinations. Set among the hills of the Grosseto area, the venue hosts a program that combines opera, baroque music, chamber performances, orchestral concerts, artistic residencies, and events designed to welcome both seasoned music lovers and younger audiences.

More than a concert series, Amiata Music was created around three main goals: supporting music education in schools across the province of Grosseto, offering opportunities to talented young musicians, and enriching local cultural life by bringing internationally acclaimed artists to Tuscany. The initiative is supported by Fondazione Bertarelli, with artistic direction by Nicholas Chalmers and Rosenna East.

What is Amiata Music?

Not every music festival manages to combine international programming, support for emerging talent, and a meaningful connection with the local landscape. That is part of what makes Amiata Music stand out.

The season takes place at Forum Fondazione Bertarelli, a performance space integrated into the Tuscan landscape and located within the ColleMassari estate, in the Monte Amiata area.

Each summer, the forum becomes a meeting point for audiences, artists, and the local community. Alongside concerts, the broader project also includes masterclasses, training programs for artists, singing festivals, and family-oriented cultural activities.

For travelers planning a Tuscan itinerary beyond the usual FlorenceSienaPisa circuit, Amiata Music offers a different kind of cultural stop: high-level performances in a quieter part of the region, surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills, and country roads.

Highlights of the 2026 season

The 2026 season brings together internationally known artists and projects tied to the next generation of classical music and opera.

The season opens on July 25, 2026 with the Gala lirico “Amiata”. Conducted by Nicholas Chalmers, the concert features the Sinfonia Smith Square Orchestra together with soloists from Mascarade Opera. The program moves through major pages of the Italian operatic repertoire while also including works from France and Austria. Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, Strauss, and Lehár all appear in an evening built around lyricism, virtuosity, and audience appeal, culminating in Verdi’s famous “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” from La Traviata. The event also reflects the festival’s commitment to supporting young singers and orchestral talent.

On August 7, tenor Laurence Kilsby takes the stage with Alessandro Quarta and Concerto Romano for “Care Gemme”. The concert explores the roots of Italian opera and the expressive world of early Baroque music. The program includes composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, Alessandro Scarlatti, and Domenico Sarro, with a focus on theatrical intensity, vivid vocal writing, and rhythmic energy.

Two days later, on August 9, Joyce DiDonato presents “Emily – No Prisoner Be” with the ensemble Time For Three. The work is built around a 24-song cycle by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts, inspired by the poetry and inner world of Emily Dickinson. Classical, folk, and contemporary influences come together in a performance centered on artistic freedom, resilience, and emotional depth.

Based on the confirmed visual program for the season, additional concerts are scheduled through August, September, and October, with names including Misha Mullov-Abbado Group, Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante, Luca Micheletti & Malcolm Martineau, Alice Sara Ott, and Trio Concept Residency.

The venue sits within the ColleMassari estate in southern Tuscany, surrounded by the hills of the Monte Amiata area. This is a good fit for travelers exploring Tuscany by car, especially those interested in combining a concert with wine country scenery, smaller villages, and a less tourist-heavy side of the region.

How to get to Amiata Music concerts

By car, the suggested route is via the SS223/E78 Grosseto-Siena road, exiting at Paganico Nord. From there, follow signs toward Monte Amiata and after about 4 km turn right toward Sasso d’Ombrone. At the first junction after the village, turn right toward Poggi del Sasso and continue for about 4 km until you reach the ColleMassari estate and the forum. Parking is available on site.

If you are arriving by train, the closest railway station is Grosseto. Fast trains from Rome take about 1 hour and 25 minutes. From Grosseto station, the final 42 km take around 40 minutes by taxi.

The venue can also be reached from the airports of Florence, Pisa, and Rome. Reported distances are about 140 km from Florence, 178 km from Pisa, and 213 km from Rome, with estimated driving times between two and two and a half hours.

For many international visitors, the easiest option will be renting a car, especially because the last part of the journey is rural and public transport connections are limited.

Is it worth staying overnight?

For travelers who do not want to rush back after the performance, staying in the area makes a lot of sense. Ticket holders have the option to book dinner or overnight accommodation connected to their concert visit, and the ColleMassari estate also offers food-and-wine experiences, including customized tastings and tours within its 1,200-hectare ecological oasis.

That makes Amiata Music especially appealing for anyone who wants to build a weekend around music, wine, and the Tuscan countryside rather than treating the concert as a simple day trip.

Why Amiata Music deserves a spot on your Tuscany itinerary
