Ryanair Goes Fully Digital: Paper Boarding Passes Phased Out from November 12, 2025

Flying with Ryanair will soon be entirely paperless. From November 12, 2025, the airline will no longer issue printable boarding passes. Instead, every passenger will need to use a digital boarding pass available through the free myRyanair app.

Why the change matters

The shift to digital-only boarding passes is not just a technological update – it’s a complete change in how Ryanair passengers will check in and access their flights. Travelers will no longer be able to download and print a PDF at home or at the airport. The only valid option will be to check in via the app and present the digital version at security and boarding gates.

Ryanair originally planned to implement this change on November 3 but decided to push it back to November 12. The timing was chosen carefully, as travel volumes drop right after the early November holidays, making it easier to adjust to the new system.

A digital shift already embraced by most passengers

The transition should be smooth for the majority of Ryanair customers. The airline reports that nearly 80% of its more than 200 million annual passengers are already traveling with mobile boarding passes. Moving to a 100% digital format simply eliminates the paper alternative.

This decision mirrors what has happened in other industries: music festivals, concerts, and sports events have already gone fully digital with tickets, leaving paper behind.

What passengers will gain

Switching to digital-only boarding passes comes with several advantages. It cuts down on paper waste, speeds up the boarding process, and reduces the risk of travelers losing or damaging their pass before a flight.

The myRyanair app is also more than just a boarding pass wallet. It provides real-time travel tools, including:

  • Order to Seat: order food and drinks straight from your phone.
  • Live Flight Information: instant updates on boarding, gate changes, and delays.
  • Direct Disruption Updates: push notifications from Ryanair’s operations team if your flight is affected by disruptions.

Tips for a smooth trip

If you haven’t yet used Ryanair’s app, download it before your next flight and check that you can log in without issues. Always travel with your phone fully charged, and bring a portable power bank for peace of mind. Once your boarding pass is downloaded in the app, you’ll be able to show it even without an internet connection at the airport.

By going fully digital, Ryanair is aligning itself with broader travel and ticketing trends – offering passengers a faster, more reliable, and greener way to fly.
