50 Giorni di Cinema a Firenze – From October 7 to December 11, 2025, the city of Florence turns into a meeting point for movie lovers from all over the world with the return of 50 Giorni di Cinema a Firenze50 Days of Cinema. For more than two months, the Tuscan capital becomes a stage for international stories, screenings, exhibitions, and cultural encounters hosted mainly at Cinema La Compagnia, right in the heart of the city.

This long-running initiative, coordinated by Fondazione Sistema Toscana with the support of the City of Florence, the Tuscany Region, Fondazione CR Firenze, and the Chamber of Commerce, is one of the most vibrant cultural events of the Florentine autumn. It’s a cinematic journey that crosses continents through nine international film festivals — from the Middle East to China, from India to Italy — offering new perspectives on people, societies, and cultures around the globe.

A cinematic journey through cultures

The season opens with Middle East Now (October 7–12), dedicated to contemporary stories from the Middle East, told through film, art, photography, theatre, and even food. This year’s opening film is Yalla Parkour by Areeb Zuaiter, an emotional look at Gaza before the current war, seen through the passion of a group of young parkour enthusiasts.

Next comes the FánHuā Chinese Film Festival (October 15–19), celebrating Chinese cinema from the golden age to the latest productions, including much-loved animation classics.

The spotlight then turns to women directors with the Festival del Cinema e Donne (October 22–26). The 2025 edition features a special collaboration with the Gaza International Festival for Women’s Cinema and the project Cinema, the Other Story: Women Who Changed the World, curated by Italian film critic Piera Detassis, with a focus on Hollywood pioneer Ida Lupino.

From October 30 to November 2, the France Odeon festival brings the best of contemporary French cinema, preceded on October 29 by a celebratory screening of Louis Malle, le révolté and Charles Pathé et Léon Gaumont, premiers géants du cinéma, marking the 130th anniversary of cinema itself.

From documentary to contemporary art

The autumn festival season continues with the Festival dei Popoli (November 3–9), one of the world’s most prestigious documentary festivals, where real stories take center stage through screenings, talks, and masterclasses.

From November 12 to 16, the Lo Schermo dell’Arte festival explores the intersection of cinema and contemporary art with artist films, VR installations, and exhibitions. The 2025 focus is on Moroccan artist Randa Maroufi, alongside works by Radu Jude, Khalil Joseph, Amie Siegel, and Sammy Baloji.

Later in November, the Florence Queer Festival (November 26–30) celebrates LGBTQIA+ voices and stories through film and art, continuing its mission to amplify diversity and inclusion in cinema.

Closing with India and the new Italian wave

In December, the spotlight shifts to India with the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival (December 5–10), celebrating 25 years of showcasing the richness of Indian cinema — from dramas to Bollywood-style musicals. The final event, on December 11, is N.I.C.E. – New Italian Cinema Events, dedicated to emerging Italian filmmakers and new creative voices.
