Ludovico Einaudi, the Italian composer and pianist who has spent three decades turning minimalist piano music into a genuinely global phenomenon, is bringing his Solo Piano tour to Florence this spring. He’ll perform at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on May 20 and 21, 2026, with both shows beginning at 8:00 PM. It’s a rare chance to see one of the most distinctive artists in contemporary music perform live in one of Italy’s most celebrated concert halls — and if his previous tours are any indication, these seats won’t last long.

The Show: Solo Piano

Ludovico Einaudi - Solo Piano - Album available since February 27, 2026

The tour arriving in Florence celebrates the release of the album Solo Piano, available since February 27, 2026 on Decca Records. It is Einaudi’s first-ever compilation entirely dedicated to solo piano, spanning thirty years of an extraordinary career.

On stage, audiences will be guided through an emotional journey featuring beloved pieces such as “Nuvole Bianche” and “Una Mattina”, alongside more recent works like “Adieux” (2024) and “Jay” from The Summer Portraits (2025). The collection also features the previously unreleased “Memory One”, which Einaudi describes in his own words: “Memory One is a special piece. It is the song of who we were, turned into who we have become.”

Einaudi’s concerts are known for creating an intimate atmosphere even in the grandest venues — minimalist melodies, cinematic lighting, and an expressive intensity that resonates deeply with every member of the audience.

His Origins and Influences

Born in Turin on November 23, 1955, Ludovico Einaudi was introduced to music through his mother, an amateur pianist. He studied at the Turin Conservatory and graduated from the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of Azio Corghi.

During his artistic formation, Einaudi also served as an assistant to the renowned Luciano Berio and studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen. A scholarship to the prestigious Tanglewood Music Festival in 1982 marked his first encounter with American minimalism — a style that would profoundly shape his creative voice.

International Rise to Fame

Einaudi’s breakthrough as a solo artist came with “Le Onde” (1996), his first solo piano album, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel The Waves. The success expanded globally with landmark releases including “Eden Roc” (1999) and the ballad cycle “I Giorni” (2001), born from a transformative journey to Mali.

His sonic innovation continued with albums such as “In a Time Lapse” (2013), “Elements” (2015), and the ambitious seven-disc project “Seven Days Walking” (2019), inspired by his winter hikes in the mountains. He made history as the only classical artist to perform at the inaugural iTunes Festival, and his records routinely cross from the top of classical charts into mainstream pop success.

Soundtracks and Iconic Performances

Einaudi’s versatility as a composer has shone brilliantly in film and television. His celebrated soundtrack for the miniseries “Doctor Zhivago” (2002) triumphed at the New York Film Festival, and his music breathes life into acclaimed films including “The Intouchables” (2011), “Samba” (2014), the three-Oscar-winning “Nomadland”, and “The Father”.

His extensive world tours have filled iconic venues including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House. One of his most iconic moments came in 2016 with “Elegy for the Arctic” — a haunting performance played on a floating platform amid the ice of the Svalbard archipelago in Norway, staged for a Greenpeace campaign.

In 2022, he released the acclaimed album “Underwater”, a metaphor for the fluidity born from silence and the “suspended time” of the pandemic lockdown.
