Many visitors never leave the Renaissance core of Florence. This autumn, the city gives you a reason to: from October 1 to November 30, 2026, Autunno Fiorentino takes concerts, contemporary circus, jazz and theater to the neighborhoods outside the historic center.

The City of Florence counts more than 226 events. We have not listed them all. Below you will find the ones that work best for a visitor, grouped by area, with dates, prices and how to book.

What Autunno Fiorentino 2026 Is

Autunno Fiorentino is the city’s autumn festival, now in its fifth edition. It began on October 1, right after the summer program, Estate Fiorentina, ended on September 30.

Fourteen projects, chosen through a public call, share the program. Every event takes place outside the UNESCO World Heritage area, in theaters, parks, community clubs, libraries and a monastery on the edge of town.

This year’s edition also marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 Arno flood, which inspires some of the shows.

Free Does Not Mean Walk-In: How Booking Works

The city describes the program as mostly free. That does not mean you can just turn up: many free events require a reservation, and the most popular ones fill up weeks ahead.

The clearest example is Musica Diffusa, the free concert series of the Orchestra della Toscana. According to the orchestra, every October concert was already fully booked on September 28.

  • Musica Diffusa, November concerts: free, but booking is required. Bookings open on Monday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m., online only, on Eventbrite.
  • Circus shows (Vento Multiforme): some are free, others cost €10 to €15. Tickets for the paid shows are sold in advance on TicketOne or at the venue on the day.
  • Jazz and songwriter concerts (Musica da Abitare): paid, from €5 to €18, with a discount for under-25s and Arci members. Tickets are sold online in advance.

Still to Be Announced: Theater in Headphones and WAX

At the time of writing, two of the most unusual projects had not yet published their detailed program:

  • Teatri Mobili: 22 roaming shows, some performed with the audience wearing headphones. According to the city, it opens on October 16 on Lungarno dei Pioppi and ends on November 29 in the Cascine park, with stops at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, the Stibbert Museum and Villa Il Ventaglio.
  • Oltre le Mura | Beyond the Walls: a free program built around WAX, a project by Chinese choreographer Er Gao, with a performance and an installation at Manifattura Tabacchi.

Practical Tips: Language, Transport and Where to Stay

Language: concerts and circus work for everyone. Most of the theater program, from monologues to civic theater, is built on spoken Italian. If you do not speak it, pick music and circus.

Getting there: all venues are outside the historic center, and many evening shows start at 9 or 9:30 p.m. Plan your route with a transit app before you go, and check how you will get back to your hotel.

Where to stay: the center is still the easiest base. See our picks for hotels in Florence.
