Where the Puccini Festival Takes Place
The Puccini Festival takes place at the Gran Teatro all’aperto Giacomo Puccini in Torre del Lago, a lakeside town between Viareggio and Pisa. The open-air theater is one of the most distinctive opera venues in Tuscany, especially for visitors who want an evening experience that feels strongly connected to the landscape and to Puccini’s own life.
Torre del Lago is a practical option if you are staying in Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, Lucca, or Pisa. It can also work from Florence, but for an evening performance, staying closer to the coast or in Lucca may make the experience more relaxed.

Is the Puccini Festival Worth Adding to Your Tuscany Itinerary?
Yes, especially if you enjoy opera, classical music, or summer evenings with a strong sense of place. The Puccini Festival is not just another concert on a travel calendar. It takes place in the landscape associated with Giacomo Puccini himself, close to the lake and the Tuscan coast.

For international travelers, it can be a smart addition to an itinerary that includes Lucca, Pisa, Viareggio, or the Versilia beaches. Instead of treating Tuscany only as a sequence of museums and hill towns, this is a chance to experience one of the region’s great musical traditions in the open air.
