Back in 2023, the World Art Awards named Le Gallerie degli Uffizi the best gallery in Italy. This page is the record of that award and what sat behind it. If you are here to plan a visit, the prices, opening hours and ticket types live in our full Uffizi guide, which we keep current.

What the World Art Awards Recognised in 2023

The World Art Awards picked its winners on a mix of criteria: years established, reputation in the industry, location, size and socially relevant exhibits. The Uffizi took the Italian top spot on the strength of its collection and its weight in the wider art world.

It was not a surprise result. The gallery was established in the 16th century and holds paintings and sculpture from the Italian Renaissance, with work by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and Caravaggio.

The Uffizi occupies the entire first and second floors of a large building designed by Giorgio Vasari.

Its reputation rests on the sweep of the collection: ancient sculpture and painting running from the Middle Ages to the modern era, with fourteenth-century and Renaissance rooms that hold outright masterpieces of Italian, European, German, Dutch and Flemish art.

One collection matters more than most: the Medici family’s ancient statuary and busts, a cornerstone of Italian art history.

Everything practical has changed since 2023, starting with the price. The Uffizi now charge by when you buy rather than a single flat rate, and there is an afternoon discount that did not exist back then.

Rather than repeat numbers that go stale, we keep them in one place: Uffizi Gallery Tickets Explained has the current prices, opening hours, free entry days and the official booking channel.

You can also book a timed-entry ticket or a guided tour that includes admission, which is worth considering if you want the rooms explained as you walk them.

Two things have not changed since 2023. Security is airport-style: bags through an X-ray scanner, you through a metal detector, and large bags and backpacks stay outside. And the building is big, so wear shoes you can walk in for a few hours.

This article was written in 2023 and rewritten in September 2026 to date the award and move the practical details to our main Uffizi guide.
