Titled Beato Angelico – Palazzo Strozzi and Museum of San Marco, the show brings together masterpieces from museums, churches, and collections around the world — many reunited for the first time in over two centuries.

This extraordinary event invites visitors on an artistic journey across two of Florence’s most iconic landmarks, promising to be one of the most anticipated cultural highlights of the 2025–2026 season in Italy.

Organized by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Museum of San Marco, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany (Italian Ministry of Culture), the exhibition offers a unique dialogue between the production, evolution, and influence of Beato Angelico — one of the absolute masters of the 15th century and a central figure of the Italian Renaissance.

Visitors will discover his exceptional mastery of perspective and light, as well as his creative exchanges with contemporaries such as Lorenzo Monaco, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, and renowned sculptors like Lorenzo Ghiberti, Michelozzo, and Luca della Robbia.

Masterpieces Reunited After Centuries

Thanks to an extensive restoration campaign, the exhibition will showcase altarpieces dispersed for more than 200 years, alongside paintings, drawings, sculptures, and illuminated manuscripts from prestigious Italian and international collections.

It is a rare opportunity to admire Beato Angelico’s art in its purest form and to appreciate the deep spiritual meaning behind his work.

Two Historic Locations: Palazzo Strozzi and Museum of San Marco

The exhibition unfolds across two extraordinary sites — the Renaissance palace of the Strozzi family and the Dominican convent where Beato Angelico once lived and painted.

Palazzo Strozzi

One of Florence’s finest examples of Renaissance residential architecture, Palazzo Strozzi was commissioned by Filippo Strozzi in 1489 to rival the grandeur of the Medici family palaces. Designed by Simone del Pollaiolo, its harmonious proportions, grand central courtyard, and imposing façade make it an architectural masterpiece.

Although Filippo died before completion, the Strozzi family moved in by 1505. Over the centuries, the palace has hosted various owners and functions. Since 1940, it has been one of Florence’s main exhibition spaces, managed by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, which continues to organize internationally significant shows while preserving its historic legacy.

Museum of San Marco

The Museum of San Marco occupies the monumental part of the Dominican convent built by Michelozzo between 1437 and 1443 for Cosimo de’ Medici. Beato Angelico lived here between 1438 and 1445, leaving behind an extraordinary cycle of frescoes, including his celebrated Annunciation.

The museum holds the world’s largest collection of Beato Angelico’s works, as well as masterpieces by Ghirlandaio, Paolo Uccello, Fra Bartolomeo, and the Della Robbia family. Visitors can explore cloisters, historic halls, and Michelozzo’s Library — considered the first public library of the Renaissance.

The recently renovated “Beato Angelico Room” displays the most important collection of the artist’s panel paintings, making the museum an unmissable stop for art lovers.

The exhibition runs from September 26, 2025, to January 25, 2026, open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Thursdays until 11:00 PM). Tickets can be purchased for each venue separately, with both fixed-date and open-date options available through the official authorized reseller.
