In Tuscany this weekend? You get an extra hour of sleep. Italy ends daylight saving time on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and clocks go back one hour overnight.
It is a small change, but it can catch you out on the day of a train, a flight or a tour. It also changes the time difference with home, and for US travelers that gap moves twice in eight days.
In short: at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, clocks in Italy go back to 2:00 a.m. Until the US changes its clocks on November 1, Italy is 5 hours ahead of New York instead of the usual 6.

When the clocks change in Italy
Italy switches from summer time (ora legale) to standard time (ora solare) in the night between Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25.
At 3:00 a.m. the clock goes back to 2:00 a.m., so the hour between 2:00 and 3:00 happens twice.
The date is not decided by Italy each year. Under EU Directive 2000/84/EC, all European Union countries change their clocks at the same moment: summer time ends on the last Sunday of October and starts again on the last Sunday of March.
So the next change in Italy is on Sunday, March 28, 2027, when clocks go forward one hour.

A one-week gap with the US
The US also turns its clocks back, but one week later. According to NIST, daylight saving time in the United States ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November, which is November 1, 2026.
For one week, the time difference between Tuscany and the US shrinks by an hour:
| Italy vs. | Until Oct. 24 | Oct. 25 to Oct. 31 | From Nov. 1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York (Eastern) | 6 hours | 5 hours | 6 hours |
| Chicago (Central) | 7 hours | 6 hours | 7 hours |
| Denver (Mountain) | 8 hours | 7 hours | 8 hours |
| Los Angeles (Pacific) | 9 hours | 8 hours | 9 hours |
If you have a video call with family, a work meeting back home or a game you want to watch live, double-check the time that week.
Coming from the UK? Nothing changes for you: Britain turns its clocks back on the same night, so Italy stays one hour ahead of London.
What changes on your trip
Your phone and laptop will update on their own, as long as automatic time is turned on.
Watch out for clocks that do not: the dashboard clock in a rental car, an old alarm clock in a farmhouse room or a watch you set by hand.
If you have an early train, flight or tour on Sunday, October 25, check the time on your phone before you leave. Tickets always show local time, so a 9:00 a.m. departure is 9:00 a.m. on the new clock.
You will also notice the light. With the clocks back, sunrise comes an hour earlier and sunset an hour earlier too, so plan hill-town drives and countryside walks for the afternoon rather than the evening.
