Best Apps for Getting Around Florence: IF, at bus and Contactless

Florence has a new official mobility hub: IF – Infomobilità Firenze. The redesigned city app has been available since October 5, 2026, bringing route planning, live mobility information and personalized alerts into one place. It is meant to become the main gateway for public transport, street parking and bike sharing — but not every payment feature is available at once.

Important: Florence says ticket, pass, parking and bike-sharing purchases are being released progressively. As of our last check on October 21, 2026, use IF confidently for journey planning and mobility information, but check what appears in your version of the app before relying on it for payment.

The short answer: which app should a visitor use?

• IF: best for planning a multimodal journey and checking city mobility information and alerts.
• at bus: the established choice for buying and activating Autolinee Toscane bus and tram tickets, including tickets for more than one passenger.
• Contactless Tip Tap: the simplest option for one person making an occasional bus or tram journey.
• Paper ticket: useful if you do not want to depend on a phone, battery or mobile data.

What the IF mobility app does now

IF is the official mobility app of the Municipality of Florence. It can plan routes, compare ways to travel, show public-transport stops and times, and send information about traffic, accidents, roadworks, street cleaning, cycle lanes, charging points and parking availability. The city also plans to show the economic and environmental cost of different routes.

You can download IF from the links on the official MaaS Firenze page. The iPhone listing identifies the developer as the Comune di Firenze and says the interface is available in Italian and English. Android users should follow the Google Play link on the same official page.

What is coming to IF

According to the Municipality of Florence announcement, the rollout is expected to include:

• the €2 urban ticket, valid for 90 minutes on Florence buses and trams;
• a ten-ticket carnet;
• weekly, monthly and quarterly public-transport passes;
• payment for SAS-managed street parking;
• later integration with Fi Park car parks;
• RideMovi bike and e-bike sharing minutes;
• integrated mobility packages combining transport, parking and sharing services.

The wording matters: these services are being integrated progressively. Seeing a service in an announcement does not guarantee that it is already purchasable in every account, phone or app version.

How to pay for Florence buses and trams today

1. Contactless Tip Tap

For one traveler, contactless is usually the fastest solution. Tap a Visa, Mastercard or American Express card — or an enabled phone or wearable — on the reader when you board. On Florence urban buses and trams, tap every time you board, including when changing vehicles within the ticket-validity period. Use the same card or device throughout the journey.

2. The at bus app

The Autolinee Toscane app remains the established digital sales channel. Buy the correct Florence urban ticket and activate it when boarding. It is especially useful when one person needs to buy tickets for several travelers. Keep enough battery and data to show an active ticket during an inspection.

3. Paper tickets

Paper tickets are sold at official ticket offices, authorized retailers and machines at Florence tram stops. Validate the ticket as soon as you board. This is a sensible backup if your phone battery is low or you prefer not to use an app.

Parking and bike sharing

IF can already help travelers locate parking information and plan journeys that combine different modes. Direct street-parking payments and RideMovi bike/e-bike rentals are part of the announced rollout. Until the relevant purchase or rental button is visible and working in your app, keep the operator’s existing payment method available.

A practical setup before your Florence trip

1. Install IF for route planning and city alerts.
2. Install at bus if you will buy for more than one person or prefer digital tickets.
3. Carry a contactless card as the easiest backup for individual journeys.
4. Do not wait until the vehicle arrives to discover whether a newly announced IF payment feature is active.
