From the Ruhr to the World: An Artistic Journey
Nuhr’s work merges digital techniques, photography, and acrylic painting to form a distinctive aesthetic language.
After acclaimed exhibitions at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022) and Rome’s MAXXI Museum (2023), this is his first solo show in Florence.

The exhibition features around 40 pieces that span landscapes and faces from across the globe — from Nuhr’s native Ruhr region, a former industrial hub turned symbol of sustainable redevelopment, to countries such as Sudan, Laos, India, Norway, and Senegal. His art captures the fragile beauty of nature and culture, reminding viewers of what is at stake if it is not protected.
A Special Midissage with the Artist
On May 13 at 11:30 AM, the exhibition will host a special midissage — a mid-run event — with the artist Dieter Nuhr, curator Dirk Geuer, Brost Foundation president Bodo Hombach, and Carlo Francini, director of Florence’s civic museums and UNESCO site coordinator.

This gathering offers a unique chance to hear firsthand insights into the artworks and the creative process behind them.
A Tribute to Florence in Three Works
Among the highlights of the show are three reinterpretations of iconic Florentine masterpieces: Adoration of the Child by Filippo Lippi, Donatello’s David, and Dante with the Divine Comedy by Domenico di Michelino. Nuhr revisits these classics through his mixed media approach, creating a contemporary dialogue with the city’s Renaissance legacy.

This intersection of tradition and modernity is central to Nuhr’s artistic philosophy. By blending digital and analog methods, he seeks to place distant cultures and familiar places on equal footing — reflecting the idea that elsewhere truly is everywhere.
Art with Purpose: A Vision for the Future
The Florence exhibition is part of a larger international project that has already toured Vienna and Munich and will soon travel to Havana. Supported by Germany’s Brost Foundation, the initiative shares Nuhr’s commitment to sustainability and cultural awareness.
Altrove è Ovunque is a thought-provoking journey. It asks: how can we preserve the beauty of the world? What role can art play in shaping a more sustainable future?
If you’re in Florence this spring, don’t miss this opportunity to experience a unique dialogue between art, nature, and humanity — all within the walls of one of the city’s most historic palaces.
