Florence Marathon 2026: Sold Out, Race Packages and Races Still Open

The Florence Marathon 2026 (Estra Firenze Marathon) takes place on Sunday, November 29, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Piazza del Duomo.

If you were hoping to sign up now, here is the short answer: the marathon is sold out.

The rules list November 20 as the registration deadline, but they also allow organizers to close early once all bibs are gone. That happened on August 27, when the organizers announced the sell-out with 13,000 runners.

Below: the one official way left to run (and what happens if you cancel), the smaller races that still have spots, and what to expect if you are simply in Florence that weekend.

Florence Marathon 2026: Date, Times and Numbers

This is the 42nd edition. According to the official rules:

  • Date: Sunday, November 29, 2026;
  • Start: 8:30 a.m. in Piazza del Duomo (runners must be in their start corrals by 8:00 a.m.);
  • Distance: 26.2 miles (42.195 km);
  • Time limit: 6 hours;
  • Field: capped at 13,000 runners.

In the sell-out announcement, organizers say about half of the entrants come from abroad, and women make up 27% of this year’s field.

The 2026 Finisher Medal

The medal for the 42nd edition has been unveiled. It was designed by Florentine jeweler Susanna Alisi, who presented it in a video shot in the heart of Florence.

Only finishers get it: from November 29, it goes around the neck of everyone who crosses the line within the 6-hour limit.

Is There a Waiting List?

There was. The free waiting list was open from September 3 to September 30.

Under its rules, it expires on November 1, with the last entry codes sent out by November 2. It is no longer taking names.

Buying someone else’s bib is not an option either. The deadline to transfer an entry to another runner, or to defer it to 2027, was October 31.

The Official Race Package, and Its Cancellation Policy

The organizers say you can still run by buying a package from Destination Florence, the city’s tourism foundation. According to the official package brochure, it includes:

  • official marathon entry;
  • a stay at a partner hotel (3-star or 4-star);
  • breakfast;
  • a “sports dinner”;
  • dedicated assistance;
  • bib pickup in a skip-the-line lane at the Expo.

The city tourist tax is not included. Prices depend on the hotel and room type and are listed in the brochure.

The early-bird rate ended on July 30, and a €20 surcharge has applied since October 15.

⚠️ Read this before you book. Per the brochure, canceling 60 to 30 days before arrival costs 50% of the price, and canceling 29 days or less before arrival costs 100%. With race day on November 29, anyone booking now is already inside the 100% window: if you cancel, you get nothing back. The marathon entry fee itself is never refundable under the race rules.

The brochure also says entrants who can’t make it in 2026 can move their entry to 2027. The race rules, however, set October 31 as the deadline to request that. If it matters to you, ask in writing before paying: prenotazioni@destinationflorence.it.

Destination Florence mentions optional trip cancellation insurance. It is sold by a third party under its own terms, so check what it actually covers.

Entry Requirements for International Runners

A package does not replace the paperwork. The rules give three options:

  • Member of a national federation affiliated with World Athletics (in the U.S., USA Track & Field): a self-declaration of membership is enough;
  • Italian RunCard: age 20 and up, plus a competitive sports medical certificate for track and field valid on November 29, 2026. Non-residents can bring one from their home country, covering a medical exam, full urinalysis, resting and stress ECG, and spirometry;
  • Unaffiliated foreign runners: you can run in the non-competitive category. You get your time, but no ranking or prizes.

We explain how the RunCard and the medical certificate work in our guide to signing up for a race in Italy.

Races That Still Have Spots That Weekend

All three register online through the Endu platform.

10K Firenze Marathon (Sunday, Nov. 29): starts at 8:45 a.m. on Via Tornabuoni and runs the last 10 km of the marathon course.

Per the 10K rules, it is capped at 3,000 runners, with online registration until November 19 or until it fills. Bibs 1 to 1,500 cost €25; bibs 1,501 to 3,000 cost €30.

It is a competitive race with requirements similar to the marathon. Unaffiliated foreign runners can enter the non-competitive category from age 16. There are no name changes or deferrals.

3x7k Fiorentina Charity Run (Saturday, Nov. 28): a 21 km relay for teams of three, each running about 7 km. It starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Ippodromo del Visarno, in Cascine Park.

Per the relay rules, it costs €30 per team, the minimum age is 16 and there is no official ranking. Registration runs until November 25, or on site on the 28th while bibs last. The first 500 teams get a medal.

Ginky Family Run (Saturday, Nov. 28): a fun run of about 2 miles (3 km) for the whole family, starting and finishing at the Ippodromo del Visarno at 9:30 a.m.

Per the official page, adults pay €10 and kids up to age 11 run free. Online registration closes November 25.

Bib Pickup at the Marathon Expo

The Marathon Expo is at Stazione Leopolda (Viale Fratelli Rosselli 5), near Santa Maria Novella station. Admission is free.

  • Friday, Nov. 27: 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.;
  • Saturday, Nov. 28: 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Marathon runners need their confirmation letter and a photo ID. The 10K rules list slightly different pickup hours (from 10:30 a.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday), so 10K runners should go by those.

On race morning, the bag drop is in Piazza Santa Maria Novella from 7:00 a.m.

In Florence That Weekend Without Running?

The race starts in Piazza del Duomo, and the organizers place the finish in Piazza Duomo too. The full 2026 course map is not on the official site yet; the one posted there is from 2025.

Expect road closures in the city center on Sunday morning. We will update this article with closed streets and transit changes as soon as the City of Florence publishes them.
