What is the Orbetello Piano International Competition?
The Orbetello Piano International Competition was created within the Orbetello Piano Festival by Giuliano Adorno and Beatrice Piersanti.
The competition has become one of the most followed piano events connected to the festival, helping strengthen Orbetello’s role as a reference point for piano music in Tuscany.
The event supports young musicians through scholarships and performance opportunities. Winners may also have the chance to perform on the stage of the Orbetello Piano Festival, scheduled in 2026 from June 19 to August 6.
More than 150 young pianists competing in Tuscany
The 2026 edition brings together more than 150 pianists aged 5 to 35, with participants coming from different parts of the world.
The competition is divided into two main sections: the Master Competition and the Junior Competition.
The Master Competition is reserved for pianists aged 21 to 35. For the 2026 edition, 130 young musicians applied during the preliminary selection phase, and 30 reached the final rounds in Orbetello.
The Junior Competition is dedicated to younger pianists aged 5 to 20, divided by age group. This section includes 120 participants.
The finalists will be evaluated by an international jury made up of teachers, pianists, and event organizers.
Public auditions at the Auditorium di Orbetello
Visitors who want to follow the competition before the final concerts can also attend the public auditions.
The Master Competition auditions will take place on May 13 and 14 at the Auditorium di Orbetello. The Junior Competition auditions are scheduled from May 15 to 17 at the same venue.
This makes the event interesting not only for classical music lovers, but also for travelers looking for a local cultural experience on the Tuscan coast.
Scholarships and cultural partnerships
The 2026 edition includes a new collaboration with Casa Bassi, a renowned Roman venue known for its intimate classical music events. Massimo Maria Bassi will offer and present the scholarship to the winner of the Master Competition during the award concert on Thursday, May 14.
The long-standing partnership with the Rotary Club Orbetello – Costa d’Argento also continues. The club will provide the scholarship and the award concert for the winner of the Junior 18-21 section.
Banca Tema is also supporting the competition, offering scholarships to younger contestants and a special prize to the most deserving participant residing in the province of Grosseto.
Why visit Orbetello for the competition?
Orbetello is often associated with its lagoon, the nearby Tuscan coast, and Monte Argentario. In May, before the busiest part of the summer season, the town can be a pleasant base for exploring southern Tuscany.
The piano competition adds a cultural reason to visit. It brings international young talent to Orbetello and connects with the wider Orbetello Piano Festival, which continues later in the summer.
For travelers who enjoy classical music, smaller Tuscan towns, and events with a strong local identity, the Orbetello Piano International Competition is worth adding to a May itinerary.
